The MARCA 2019 football awards: Messi collects sixth Pichichi
The MARCA football awards were held on Monday, with Lionel Messi claiming the coveted Pichichi trophy while Jan Oblak took home the Zamora prize.
It was the Barcelona forward’s sixth Pichichi trophy as he was the top scorer with 36 LaLiga Santander goals in the 2018/19 season, and he also scooped the Alfredo Di Stefano prize which is given to the best player in the league. The Argentine star, who could not make it to the gala, made his appearance via video where he was thankful to receive both accolades.
The other main award of the event was won by Oblak, who earned the Zamora trophy after keeping 20 clean sheets in 37 league games to earn his fourth consecutive such award which he collected at the event.
Jose Bordalas and Diego Martinez both won the Miguel Munoz trophy awarded to the best coach in the league. Bordalas carried his Getafe side to Europe for only the third time in their history.
Iago Aspas was awarded the Zarra trophy for the third consecutive year as the top Spanish scorer and Inaki Williams won the Golden Goal prize for his strike against Sevilla.
Sergio Ramos was named the MVP of the national team as a reward for his 170 national team appearances which made him the most capped Spanish national team player in history.
