Simeone is a gold mine: More than 400 million euros generated for Atletico Madrid
Diego Simeone has not only revolutionised Atletico Madrid on the pitch, but off of it as well, turning the modest Spanish club into one of the wealthiest in the world.
The 1-0 win over Real Betis on Saturday secured Champions League football for an eighth successive season under his guidance, which is every full campaign he has been in charge.
Simeone has taken Atletico to the Champions League once as a league champions, twice as runners-up and four times by finishing in third place, and another two games remain this season to see which position they will end up, although they currently occupy third.
This has resulted in vast riches for the club. The most profitable Champions League campaign was neither of the two times they reached the final, but last season in which more than 85 million euros was generated, despite crashing out in the last 16.
Meanwhile, on the two occasions when they reached the final, in 2014 and 2016, the club made 50m euros and 70m euros respectively.
This season, Los Rojiblancos have already earned more than 76m euros.
In total, in those seven consecutive participations, they have made 417m euros, and the funds will continue to roll in next season.
