Atletico Madrid aren’t forgetting about Lacazette
Atletico Madrid’s search for a world-class striker has not been fruitful since Diego Costa‘s departure to Chelsea in 2013/14.
However, despite the particularities of this summer’s transfer window, they will try to achieve their objective by luring Alexandre Lacazette to the Spanish capital.
Los Rojiblancos will not spend big and may not be able to sign superstar strikers such as Edinson Cavani, Gonzalo Higuain or Luis Suarez.
Nevertheless, their sporting director Andrea Berta is willing to offer Arsenal a swap deal for the Frenchman.
Although the Gunners are interested in signing Thomas Partey, Atleti are not willing to part ways with their midfielder.
Yet they would be eager to offer Thomas Lemar, or Angel Correa or Vitolo as a makeweight.
This deal was put on the table back in January, but Arsenal turned down the offer.
However, the circumstances and needs of both clubs have changed and talks may resume from another prism.
Atletico had a verbal agreement with Lacazette back in May 2017 to sign him from Lyon, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed their transfer ban the following month.
The French striker is not the only option considered by Atleti, who do not rule out the departures of either Alvaro Morata or Diego Costa.
If an interesting offer arrives for one of the two forwards, the club may cash in to reinvest the money in another striker.
