Valencia pay the penalty
Valencia conceded their fourth penalty of the season against Atletico Madrid.
Denis Cheryshev was penalised for handling Alvaro Morata’s shot in the 34th minute, allowing Diego Costa to open the scoring from 12 yards.
Francis Coquelin was responsible for giving away Valencia’s first penalty of the campaign when he handled the ball in the 98th minute on the opening weekend against Real Sociedad.
Ezequiel Garay was the next villain, tripping Denis Suarez in the area during Los Che’s trip to Balaidos to face Celta Vigo.
After the international break, Valencia were back at it again as Daniel Wass gave away a penalty at Stamford Bridge for handball.
Out of those four penalties, only two have been scored. Jasper Cillessen saved from Suarez in Vigo, while Ross Barkley hit the crossbar for Chelsea in the Champions League.
It’s a trend that started in pre-season, with Los Che also giving away penalties in friendlies against Brighton, Bayer Leverkusen and Inter.
