The secret behind Bruno’s return: The boots he used eight years ago
Bruno Soriano is back. The 36-year-old played for the first time in three years against Sevilla after having overcome a slew of injuries, and he is now hoping to play in the Community of Valencia derby between Villarreal and Valencia at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Sunday evening.
As a lucky charm of sorts, the midfielder has decided to return to the pitch wearing the boots he wore when the Yellow Submarine achieved promotion back to LaLiga Santander at the end of the 2012/13 campaign.
Bruno expressed a deep loyalty to the club by refusing to leave them during this difficult spell, despite interest from around Europe.
Adidas, the brand that sponsors him, provided him with the Predator LZ Yellow version for that season, and he played well whilst wearing them upon Villarreal’s return to the top flight of Spanish football.
Adidas began to send him other types of boot when the Predator LZ was removed from the market.
For comfort and for sentimental value, however, Bruno decided to keep the Predator LZ, and cherish them like gold.
Eight years later, and after having overcome three years of recurring injury problems, Bruno will be hoping that the boots have a talismanic effect.
