Tebas: The only person responsible for Fuenlabrada travelling to A Coruna is me
Javier Tebas has taken responsibility for the chaos that has stemmed from Fuenlabrada’s trip to Galicia to take on Deportivo La Coruna.
Fuenlabrada travelled for the game that was due to be played last Monday in Matchday 42 of LaLiga SmartBank, but it was postponed due to COVID-19 cases among the away side’s staff.
Although Depor were relegated without playing, Fuenlabrada had a chance at reaching the playoffs with a win.
But on Sunday afternoon LaLiga released a statement that said they had found an agreement with the club to definitively postpone the game, which has since been denied by the club themselves.
Moments after that statement, Tebas took accountability on Twitter.
«Dear players, coaches, employees of Fuenlabrada,» Tebas wrote.
«You followed all of the instructions LaLiga gave you, the only person responsible for you travelling to A Coruna is me.
«I made that decision. Nobody else.
«Football owes you one.
«Take heart from this. Your opportunity will come.»
Fuenlabrada released their own statement at, more or less, the same time as Tebas’ comments, denying that they have accepted the definitive postponement of the game.
