Is LaLiga Santander more entertaining or more boring this season?
After 12 fixtures of the LaLiga Santander season, no clear favourite for the title has emerged.
There have also been some surprising results, with some less likely teams taking up some of the European places.
So, is this LaLiga Santander more entertaining or more boring than in recent years?
Why it’s more entertaining
It looks like anyone can beat anyone in LaLiga Santander this season and that was proved in Matchday 12 as Barcelona were defeated by Levante, Real Madrid were held by Real Betis and Valencia lost at Osasuna.
The unexpected results have left us with a strange looking LaLiga Santander table. Just five points separate the first 13 places with Real Sociedad level at the top with Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Those three teams have picked up 22 points so far, with Atletico Madrid and Sevilla on 21 points and newly-promoted Granada on 20 points.
Matches are also more tightly-fought affairs too. Three games were drawn in matchday three while four others were won by just a single goal.
Why it’s more boring
On the contrary, there are some people who think this LaLiga Santander season is lacking any real thrills.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico have all struggled to find consistency and, as a result, there’s been a lack of exciting competition at the top.
There’s also a lack of real superstars amongst Spanish clubs. With Cristiano Ronaldo in Turin and Neymar in Paris, it’s down to Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Joao Felix to shoulder the responsibility in that respect.
There’s also a downside to tighter matches, with more tactical play and fewer goals not exactly exhilarating the neutrals watching.
