De Tomas becomes fourth Espanyol player to score on his debut in the last decade
Raul de Tomas became the fourth Espanyol debutant to find the back of the net in the last decade when he scored in Los Periquitos’ 2-1 win away at Villarreal on Sunday afternoon.
The 25-year-old thus joins Jesus Datolo (2010), Samuele Longo (2012) and Marc Navarro (2017) in having done so.
De Tomas completed his move to Espanyol 10 days ago as the club looked to address their woes in front of goal, and the striker has already shown that he is ready to step up in the Copa del Rey match against Sanse and then on Sunday at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
There were lots of positives for Espanyol to take away from their win against Villarreal, with one of them being the strike partnership of De Tomas and Jonathan Calleri.
In fact, the Argentine did some excellent work on the right flank before putting in a pinpoint cross for De Tomas, which he headed beyond Sergio Asenjo to make it 2-0. The De Tomas-Calleri partnership is expected to be Espanyol’s strike duo in the second half of the season.
Another of the positives was the return of Victor Sanchez to action in the 63rd minute, with the combative midfielder having missed the month and a half due to a sprained right knee.
