Atletico Madrid find stability with Koke
Whilst the importance Koke has to Atletico Madrid doesn’t need explaining after 443 appearances for the club, it’s worth noting that since the turn of the year the team has actually found a level of stability with the captain in the starting XI.
It’s no secret that the 2019/20 campaign hasn’t been one of Atleti’s best since Diego Simeone took charge, yet since 2020 started they have yet to lose a match when Koke has been on the pitch.
He was present for the impressive 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League, and his involvement will be crucial for any successes Los Rojiblancos will have for the remainder of the season.
Koke had missed three weeks due to injury when Atleti entered the Supercopa de Espana in Saudi Arabia, yet a relapse of his ailment would see him miss the final against Real Madrid, which Los Blancos won.
He wasn’t involved in the Copa del Rey defeat to Cultural Leonesa, whilst he sat out LaLiga Santander defeats to Eibar and Los Merengues.
Ever since his return, the team has strung together three victories, a feat that has eluded them for much of the season, and his personality has given the team the belief that it had previously lacked.
